A small
picture, without any comment as to what it was, appeared next to the
Jubilee update in January’s edition of LF and in March on the front page
of our website.
As part of
the 50th Celebrations, the Club commissioned a painting that
would reflect the heritage of the 7.
This superb A3 watercolour measuring inches is the means by which
we hope to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund at the Jubilee
event.
We
are very fortunate that the artist, Brian Ramsey (Tyrone on Blatchat), is
a member of the Club and has has not made any charge for his work, he has
also generously donated the original, this has been mounted and framed and
will be raffled with all proceed going to the Leukaemia Research Fund.
Brian, who
has been a painter for 20 years, was asked if he would accept the
commission to commemorate the 50th Anniversary.
“My normal subjects are
buildings and having only recently produced my first painting of a car,
the prospect was somewhat daunting!”
None the less Brian agreed with alacrity.
“Accepting a commission to
commemorate 50 years of the Seven wasn’t one the toughest decision that
I have had to make but one that I was delighted to undertake” said
Brian.
Having gone
through a number of ideas, Brian posted a plea on Blatchat for photographs
of landmark cars. This produced a fantastic response but it soon became
apparent that a painting showing the progression from 1957 to 2007 would
prove too complicated. “It was
guaranteed that I would miss a car that someone considered essential.”
He said.
Several
more sketches later and still not being satisfied he went back to the
original suggestion of "From Chapman to present" The final proof
soon followed which retained the theme of ‘progression’ and embodied
the form and line that he had been searching for.
Brian, who
is a member of the Guild of Motoring Artists, will be exhibiting several
more pieces in France this summer.
